Beloit

Located on US HWY 24, the City of Beloit is a hub for the region as the county seat. Beloit offers a variety of retail, dining, service, and entertainment options to residents and visitors alike. The community has a long history as a manufacturing center for farm machinery with many ag-related businesses spread throughout the city.

A healthcare destination in North Central Kansas, Beloit is home to Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit Medical Center, and Mitchell County Health Department, all of which offer a variety of specialty services and exceptional healthcare close to home! USD 273 Beloit Jr/Sr High School and Elementary School, as well as St. John’s Catholic School and NCK Technical College are also located in Beloit.

Both historically and currently, the Solomon River’s course through Beloit includes the 26 acres Chautauqua Park, home to the Beloit Water Park, a frisbee golf course, free camping with hookups, picnic areas, a playground, and more. The NCK Wellness Center and Solomon River Trail offer great recreational opportunities within the city too. The Mitchell County Historical Museum offers multiple programs throughout the year to experience the rich cultural history of the area.

Cawker City

Located on US 24 HWY and the north edge of Waconda Lake, Cawker City has multiple lodges, two cafes, a coffee shop, a specialty gift store, farm manufacturing company and grain elevator. Thousands of people visit the “Largest Ball of Twine” each year.

Services available are a spa shop, beauty shop, dollar store, construction contractors, photography & video business, mortuary, auto repair, bank, post office, library, and electric business. Lakeside Elementary School is located here, with a daycare and Preschool through 5th grades. Recreation also includes Lakeside Park with a 9-hole golf course located directly alongside the lake.

Glen Elder

A farming community, located on US 24 HWY, Glen Elder is the home of Waconda Lake, Glen Elder State Park and the historical Waconda Mineral Springs Replica.  Glen Elder offers multiple lodging opportunities, a regional communications company, vehicle repair company, and 100-car grain elevator.  Enjoy the city’s original design of a town square surrounding the city’s shady Neff Park. Around the park, smaller businesses include a quick shop with hunting and fishing supplies, library, senior center, restaurant, bank, post office and American Legion.

Hunter

Hunter is a small farming community located on HWY 181. A historical 1916 railroad town, services include a grain elevator, post office, café, community center, library, and fuel pumps. Multiple small lodges are located in Hunter and this rural area.

Other Mitchell County Towns

Additional county towns include Asherville, and Solomon Rapids. Located on HWY 24, Asherville is just east of Beloit and Solomon Rapids is located west of Beloit.

Scottsville

Scottsville is located in northeastern Mitchell County, just off of Hwy 9. It hosts grain elevators, a farm implement business and iron recycling business.

Simpson

Simpson is a small farming community with a post office, restaurant and city park.  A unique “Trapper Lodge” mural is located here.

Tipton

A small farming community on HWY 181, Tipton has an agricultural machinery manufacturing company, home decorating business, two construction companies, large bird hatchery, and grain elevator.  Visit the traditional main street with a grocery store, hardware, bank, café, museum, library, community center and other stores. A one-hundred-year-old private high school remains open here, as well as a community grade school, next to the city park and ball field. A large pheasant hunting lodge is located two miles south on HWY 181.
